Sri Lanka is +5:30. That gives us an afternoon overlap with Europe and an evening one with North America. Timezone is the first thing people ask about, and in practice it is the smallest of the real problems.
The thing that actually breaks
Distributed work fails on unwritten decisions, not on hours. If the reason for a choice lives in one person’s head in one timezone, the other side is blocked until that person wakes up.
So we write things down: the decision, the alternative we rejected, and why. It is slower on the day and dramatically faster across a quarter.
Why we do not sell developer hours
Plenty of companies will sell you capacity out of South Asia by the month. That model puts every judgement call on the buyer, who is usually the person least equipped to make it.
We run products of our own, so we sell the judgement as well as the build. Sometimes that means telling a client their brief is wrong, which is not a service a body shop can offer.
What being here gives us
Our products were tested on counters we could walk to. When something did not work, the shopkeeper told us that afternoon — a feedback loop most product teams would pay for.
Built in Sri Lanka, working with teams on three continents. Both halves of that sentence are load-bearing.
